Magnetic Bearing Compressor

Water-Cooled Chillers

The water cooled Smardt Chiller was just as well developed for process cooling with its high demands for reliability, as for HVAC (Heating-Ventilation-Air-Conditioning) applications that present a special challenge to produce efficient refrigeration that does not affect the climate.

Smardt produces excellent COP results distinguishing it by way of minimal operating costs based on substantial energy savings during partial load. Smardt can be delivered in many variations. Our engineers not only provide economic efficiency calculations, but also perform an on-site survey and analysis of the requirements needed for your particular application.

Air-Cooled Chillers

The Smardt Chiller is also available as an air-cooled variation to be set up outdoors.

 

This technology is independent of external re-cooling (works) and can be placed where no cooling water is available. The air-cooled Smardt Chiller uses the same flooded vaporizer as the tried and tested water-cooled series. Refrigerant liquefication occurs using a modular, air-cooled, V-liquefier construction.

The refrigeration machines operate very quietly and assure extremely little vibration. Special requests for absolute minimal noise levels can be fulfilled.

 

Packaged Container Solutions

The space-saving container system design combines high-quality, energy-efficient refrigeration, and re-cooling technology with simple connection and set up possibilities. Our container constructions incorporate quality cooling/cold water systems including complete internal piping and wiring, a central control unit and all components needed for smooth operation in your cooling system.

Smardt is the leading magnetic-bearing chiller manufacturer in tropical climate zones, having installed chillers in the South East Asian region, for example, already in 2009. We have installations now in almost all South-East-Asian nations, from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, to PNG and even pacific islands like Guam.

As such we have plenty of experience with implementing our Turbocor chillers in tropical climates, as well as poor power quality grids: our chillers run perfectly fine despite those harsher conditions.

Our regional service center is located in Singapore, from where support staff can reach anywhere in SEA within few hours.

Service & Maintenance

Since there are much fewer parts than on conventional chillers, and the magnetic bearing operates without oil and no friction, there is hardly wear & tear on the Smardt Turbocor system.

 

As a result, not much needs to be maintained, exchanged, or replaced - very few consumables. Even in western countries, with tough requirements from customers, a 6-monthly servicing cycle is sufficient.

In addition, our optional remote monitoring unit will allow us to monitor your chiller’s performance from our headquarter, and our technical staff can in the event of a failure check the log quickly and easily.

In terms of servicing after this period, we can recommend trained & skilled service partners in each country who are familiar with our machines.

Smardt & Sustainability

CFC-FREE – No Ozone Depleting Gases Used

Smardt chillers are operating with Refrigerant 134-a, which is Montreal protocol compliant and not a CFC.

 

Reduced Co2 Emmission

Smardt SAVES 500 TONS (Over 15 years). As a highly energy-efficient chiller, our chillers save not only power but also Greenhouse gas emissions, as most grid-power is still generated from fossil fuels, and as such a MWh of power causes 0.5 to over 1t of CO2e.

CO2e is derived from the TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact), which is a value that stands for the total contribution made to the Greenhouse Effect. It is calculated by adding the direct and indirect GWP (Global Warming Potential).

TEWI = GWPind + GWPdir The GWPind is a result of operating time, the year’s energy consumption, and a conversion factor. TheGWPdir is comprised based on 100 years, leakage, the system’s fill amount, and the recovery factor.

In a comparison of Smardt Chillers and a similar screw-type compressor, there was hardly a difference in the direct GWP, but Smardt tests far better in indirect GWP: in 15 years a Smardt W135-P with 1400 KW emits 500 T less CO2 than a conventional refrigeration machine with 1,100 KW.

 

That is equal to a yearly energy savings of 53,700 KWh or the energy (consumption of two washing machines that run for 365 days around the clock).
